Rushkoff is a Jew and a media theorist. Media theory is concerned with issues of literacy, transparency and community. Judaism actually speaks to each of these issues.

  1. dedicated to literacy - reading, interpretation and discourse form the coming-of-age ceremony of bar/bat mitzvah
  2. restriction on graven images - dedicated to keeping the bar-to-entry low, avoiding idolatry, the text on the page is all there is, two-way texts, open annotation, reminiscent of open source community ethic
  3. ritualized community - the minyan for example, as safeguard against isolation and destructive impact of corporate elites, one that internet culture could benefit from
